FRANZ FERDINAND will play New York next month in a home town gig for singer Alex Kapranos.

He shares a flat in NYC with girlfriend Eleanor Friedberger of Fiery Furnaces.

Alex says the band's new album is not as frantic as the last one: "It was like a teenager having sex. This one's a bit more assured."
