Edwyn got me moving says Roddy Frame

Rocker Roddy Thanks Pal

ROCKER Roddy Frame has revealed how his helping singer Edwyn Collins to tour again inspired him to get back on the road.

The ex-Aztec Camera star played guitar for pal Edwyn on his first tour following a double brain haemorrhage in 2005.

It was seeing the former Orange Juice frontman play which spurred Roddy to confirm gigs at Oran Mor in Glasgow on November 8 and 10.

The pair met when they were signed to Glasgow indie label Postcard Records 28 years ago.

Roddy said: "I felt helpless when Edwyn took ill and I wasn't able to see him for months.

"When he began rehab I took him for a pizza in London. He falteringly said, 'It would be nice to get out and play again'.

"I was trying to be positive but I wondered if it would ever happen.

"Then 18 months later I was on stage at Oran Mor playing guitar with him. Wee things like that make it all worthwhile.

"It seemed a good way to contribute to him getting better."

Edwyn and Roddy performed Orange Juice classics including Falling And Laughing and Blueboy.

Roddy added: "The big joke is that Edwyn sings them better now than he did in 1980.

"It was a huge boost.

His therapist came to a gig and said, 'I wish I could give this to all my patients'."

Roddy fell in love with Oran Mor.

He said: "It was beautiful - even the dressing room was lovely. How many venues can you say that about?"

Roddy released the album Western Skies in 2006 but this will be the first time he has toured without a new record to promote.

He said: "I've been working on new songs and may debut them at the gigs.

"I write sporadically. I can go six months without writing anything.

"I haven't changed my way of working since the early days of Postcard."
