Superstar Moby in plea to play in Scotland

Superstar's Plea For Gig

TECHNO superstar Moby has sent out a "come and get me" shout to Scots promoters.

The New York-based producer says he loves playing Scotland so much he would jump on a plane immediately if he was offered a gig here - no matter how small.

He said: "I really love Scotland and would love to play there. If anyone asks me, I'll be there. I am kind of a DJ whore. "I first went there in 1991 and I felt so much more at home than when I was playing down south.

"I've had some of the most fun nights out I've ever had in Scotland.

I am very lucky that my criteria for choosing where to play has nothing to do with the financial aspect of it.

"I am much happier playing a small club with a few hundred people than a big arena with 10,000.

"There is something about going on tour in large venues that is lonely and anonymous.

"What I love about the small ones is you show up, play records then hang out and drink beer. It's more humble."

The 42-year-old star releases his new album Last Night next month. It will be a conventional CD release as Moby feels exclusive downloads - such as recent offerings from Radio head and The Charlatans - overshadow the music.

He added: "One of the dangers of the digital age is people get more hung up on marketing and new ways of doing things than the actual music itself.

"Some bands have released records and 90 per cent of what I hear is how they have been released rather than the quality of the music.

"I am still simple and naive in what I believe - it does not matter how it is released, people still listen to it out of two speakers."

Moby's new album sees a return to his dance music roots, heavily influenced by the retro sound that is the toast of the hottest clubs in New York.

He admits he is bored of conventional touring and hopes to combine DJ-ing with a live show.

He said: "It's fun to show up, play records, get to take credit for other people's work and drink at the same time."
