Pop Star Amy Macdonald's Heartache After Love Split

Exclusive Rocker Amy In Love Split

POP star Amy Macdonald is nursing a secret heartache - after splitting from her musician boyfriend.

The Mr Rock & Roll singer and Gregor MacDonald have called it a day just weeks after he quit his day job in a call centre to spend more time with her.

Amy, 20, who hit the big time with debut album This Is The Life, revealed the pair were in love six months ago and admitted they were desperate to spend more time together.

Gregor, 24, was yesterday on holiday in Vienna and one of his friends told us: "He's out seeing his mum in Austria.

"No one knows what went wrong but Greg and Amy got really close really quickly.

"Maybe they just need their own breathing space for a while."

In a Sunday Mail interview last August, Amy said: "Greg's one of those people that can make even the most miserable person smile. He's lovely.

"We've been going out for six months. He came on tour with me and had a great time.

"Is it love? Well, yes. I think we're really well suited."

But in recent interviews she has been much more cagey and refused to discuss the relationship when promoting her appearance at Glasgow's Hogmanay celebrations where she wowed thousands of fans in George Square.

Gregor sings and plays guitar in Scots band the Maple Thieves, who have been tipped for fame, but until recently also had a day job in a Norwich Union insurance call centre.

The pair, both from Bishopbriggs, near Glasgow, got together in February last year and since then Amy's career has gone through the roof.

Single Mr Rock & Roll hit the Scottish No.1 slot and another song, The Road To Home, was used as the campaign song for Glasgow's successful 2014 Commonwealth Games bid.

Amy was also crowned Radio Forth's Artist of the Year and named Best Newcomer at the prestigious Tartan Clef Awards last year.

Last night Amy's spokeswoman declined to comment on the split.
