AMERICAN DAD:SEASON 3 (12) *****
If you love Family Guy, you will lap up this equally controversial animated comedy.
The star of the show is CIA-type Stan Smith, proud American patriot and utter moron, sharing his home with his wife, kids, an alien named Roger and a German spy in the body of a goldfish.
Abiting satire on all things American, the series never strays anywhere close to good taste or PC. It's a must-see for open-minded viewers who like controversial comedy. How it's only rated 12 I'll never know.
PS I LOVE YOU (15) **
The sort of slushy love story just made for those ladies - and gents, I suppose - who like a good cry into their popcorn.
Based on the Cecelia Ahern novel but with the action shifted to the States, Hilary Swank plays a woman devastated by the death of her husband (Gerard Butler) but she is helped to deal with her grief by 10 messages he has left behind for her. Based on what you have just read you will either be desperate to see it, or already reading the next review.
Lucky you - I had to finish it!
INDIANA JONES TRILOGY SE (PG) *****
I love these movies and it's remarkable how well they have endured. There are cheesy 80s FX galore but the stories, characters and acting are still right up there.
You will be very hard-pushed to find better family viewing of a weekend - in fact you don't even need a family to love these adventures.
Great stuff - the new movie will have to go some to top them.
MR MAGORIUM'S WONDER EMPORIUM (U) ****
Dustin Hoffman and Natalie Portman are on fine form as the ancient toy shop owner and his young, shy apprentice.
It's a strange, whimsical little film set in a fantasy world which kids will absolutely adore - after all, what better childhood dream than a toyshop filled with goodies which actually come to life?
Great family fun and again, worth seeing even if you are not surrounded by a load of noisy kids.
