Bowls: Scott Lines Up A Final Countdown

SCOTT KENNEDY of East Lothian beat defending champion Mervyn King in straight sets to ensure there will be a Scot in the final of the WIBC Championship in Swansea.

Kennedy found his best form in the nick of time to power to a 8-6, 8-2 against the Englishman in their quarter-final clash.

He now faces Midlothian's Colin Walker who turned in an awesome display to dump local star Dan Goughin 10-5, 10-4.

In the women's event Claire Johnston of Auchinleck is on course to retain her title after storming home in her tie with Azlina Arshad from Malaysia.

Johnston claimed the opening set 9-3 but trailed 3-8 in the second before reeling off a 4, 4, 3 and 1 finish to take the set 15-8 and clinch her place in the semi-final against Ireland's Bernie O'Neill.

West Lothian's Wendy Archer couldn't quite match the success of the other Scots left in the singles, going down 12-6, 10-6 to English champion Sarah Seymour in the other half of the draw.
