GUS MACPHERSON called for a common sense approach from refs after watching Spanish winger Tonet receive two bookings in three minutes.
The Buddies boss accepted that ref Calum Murray was within his rights to flash the yellow card on both occasions b, heartsut he felt the whistler could have approached the situation differently to avoid sending him off.
MacPherson said: "By the letter of the law they are both yellow cards. But if there are bookings all the time for challenges like that we will be left with no players on the park.
"It would have been enough to have a quiet word in the kid's ear for the second foul."
But despite defeat, MacPherson was full of praise for his players who battled away for 65 minutes with just 10-men and almost snatched a point deep into injury time.
He said: "We made it difficult for ourselves by going down to 10-men and giving the goal away just before the break.
"But we worked hard to get back into the game.
You have to look at the positives and we kept going to the end."
Hearts fielded their third keeper in as many games with the debut of Marian Kello but boss Casba Laszlo admits he's still far from satisfied.
He said: "There were positives and negatives to take from the display. We could have won by more but the main thing is we got the result."
