Dargo: We're Raging About 'Lying Down' To Gers Slur St Mirren V Rangers Tomorrow, Kick-Off 7.45pm Live On Setanta
ST MIRREN striker Craig Dargo admits he's seething at people who question his integrity by saying the Buddies will lie down to SPL title challengers Rangers.
The Love Street side face Walter Smith's men tomorrow night in a match that could have a massive impact on the destination of the championship.
Gers must win to keep alive their treble dream while the Paisley outfit have nothing but personal pride to play for.
However, Dargo is insulted when he hears punters questioning their commitment. It's St Mirren's last home game of the season and the 30-year-old hitman is hell-bent on wrecking Gers' title hopes.
And that's even though he revealed Ibrox assistant manager and old pal Ally McCoist jokingly tried to ply him with alcohol so he might not be fit for the live TV clash.
Dargo said: "It's a bit annoying when I hear people saying 'St Mirren have nothing to play for so Rangers will win' or 'St Mirren will lie down to them'.
"Celtic need us to do them a turn to have a chance of winning the league. But as a pro your pride wouldn't let you give anything less than 100 per cent in every game.
"We've caused the Old Firm problems this year at home.
"Celtic were lucky to get the points the last time we played them here - Shunsuke Nakamura scored with a late free-kick.
"So make no mistake, we'll give a good account of ourselves against Rangers and we do have a lot to play for.
"We want ninth place. It's not a nothing game for us, that's nonsense. We'll approach it with the same mentality we have for every game.
"In every match we're being judged by our manager. Such a furore has been made about this game, where some supporters are questioning our integrity, that I think it will make us more determined to get a result.
"We want to end the season with a bang and what better way to do it than beating one of the Old Firm?
"I get fans coming up to me all the time saying 'C'mon pal you need to give your all against them'. But anyone involved in football would know we'd be doing that anyway.
"The last thing we want is to get humped in the last match in front of our own fans."
Dargo went on to tell how pal Coisty got on his case at the Scottish Football Writers' Awards Dinner.
Craig said: "He was getting folk to try to get me drunk, hoping I'd be unwell for the match. I said the way I'm playing he'd be better having me fit!"
This has been a nightmare season for Dargo because of an ankle injury that saw him miss most of the campaign after he signed from Caley Thistle.
He'll be hoping to repay the faith shown in him by Gus MacPherson next term and praised the boss for the job he has done since getting the Buds promoted two years ago.
Dargo said: "Gus has lost players and we don't have a big squad. I have to give credit to him for what he has done because we could end up ninth in the league.
"Anything above second bottom was always going to be an achievement and if we could get ninth it gives us a great base to build on. It's also worth mentioning our reserve team who came so close to winning their league.
"Our lads only lost because Gretna couldn't fulfil a fixture against Celtic who were given a 3-0 win.
"The gaffer is trying to build something and to think our kids finished above Rangers and Hearts is phenomenal. It shows there's quality coming through."
