St Mirren V Dumbarton Saturday, Kick-Off 3.00

BUDDIES stopper Ian Maxwell is the first to admit the Scottish Cup has not been kind to him - so that's why there is no chance he will take Dumbarton lightly on Saturday.

The 32-year-old has never been past the last eight and remains haunted by St Mirren's quarter-final defeat to Gretna two seasons ago.

Maxwell, who scored in the 2-1 win over Hibs yesterday, said: "I've always felt we missed a right good chance of doing something that year.

"Gretna went on to play Dundee in the semis then got to the final.

"It was definitely one that got away and even more disappointing as I always seemed to get knocked out in the third or fourth round."

St Mirren were dumped out the CIS Cup by Third Division East Fife earlier in the season. But Maxwell insists they won't be caught napping when new Sons boss Jim Chapman takes his troops to Love Street.

He said: "If we needed a warning we only have to think back to that game. Dumbarton have a new gaffer and the players will want to impress.

We can't take anything for granted."
