Paul aims to be skipper again

PAUL QUINN has vowed to win back the captain's armband at Fir Park despite his conviction for assault.

Well gaffer Mark McGhee stripped Quinn of the captaincy after he appeared in court at the beginning of the month (below) to be sentenced for attacking a man at a nightclub.

The 22-year-old had only had the armband for six months having taken over from Phil O'Donnell who died on the pitch at Fir Park in December.

McGhee has yet to decide on a new skipper - despite giving the role to Northern Ireland international Stephen Craigan in a pre-season friendly in Austria last week.

But Quinn, who insists he was wrongly convicted, believes he can get the armband back one day.

He said: "People looking at things in black and white might think I abused the privilege of being Motherwell captain.

"But I know what really happened and so do others.

"I'm not going to lie, I loved wearing the armband and I want it back.

"It'll be a huge blow not to be skipper for our first SPL game next month but as long as I'm playing I can win it back. At the very least I can go on to be a better player and better man for this whole experience."
