Give Us Credit For Win Says McGhee

MOTHERWELL boss Mark McGhee insisted two reds for Inverness shouldn't take any of the gloss of his side's convincing win.

The Fir Park boss was delighted with his team's display against the nine-man Highlanders.

Inverness didn't do themselves any favours as Graham Bayne and Ross Tokely saw red in the second half but the Steelmen were already on top.

Their quick-fire start shook the home side and Well were deserved winners.

McGhee (below) said: "I hope the two red cards don't subtract from our display.

"I think when Caley look back they'll see the referee made the correct decisions.

"The first one was for two bookable offences and the second was a blatant arm from Tokely on Steven McGarry.

"It was pleasing to score from a set-piece and we started well.

"We try to encourage fast starts and we've done it all season - even against the likes of Celtic, Rangers and Hibs.

"The difference was we got in front and kept the lead until half-time.

"Last week against St Mirren we annihilated them but lost a goal and ended up drawing a game we should have won.

"We kept our discipline today even when Caley went down to nine men but I suppose it's easy when you're winning.

"We took this game very seriously and I'm satisfied with the victory."

David Clarkson was the star of the show, alongside Ross McCormack, grabbing a double and teeing up Darren Smith for a late third.

He admitted he was pleased with his form but refused to get carried away with his side's good start.

Clarkson said: "I think I played well today but it's all about the team. I'm really enjoying playing with Rossco - he's got great trickery - and big Chris Porter who's good in the air and gives us something different.

"We're gelling well up front and I hope we can keep it going.

"I'm now getting back to my best form and I'm pleased with the goal return but I want more.

"I don't know how far we can go this season. The most important thing is to stay focussed."
