KILLIE boss Jim Jefferies last night admitted he has never known a season to be so cruel to his side in terms of injuries.
The frustrated Rugby Park gaffer watched as Tim Clancy was the latest player to be added to his list of crocks after the left-back was stretchered off with a suspected broken leg during yesterday's draw with Gretna.
Jefferies is clearly rattled by his run of bad luck and reckons his side would have made the top six had his full squad been available. When asked if he'd ever known a campaign like this one, he said: "Never.
Especially to lose key men and then lose more key men on top of them.
"That's why it has been such a tough year. We started the season well but to lose so many players is always going to make it more difficult.
"The guys missing today are the type of players you need for this type of game, as they make the difference.
"Players such as Allan Johnston and Craig Bryson. With them out we're down to the bare bones. If I had my full squad I'd be confident we'd have comfortably made the top six."
Meanwhile, Gretna stand-in boss Mick Wadsworth admits he doesn't have a clue what is going to happen to the club at the end of the season.
He said: "I'm in the dark as much as anyone about what's happening.
"I haven't spoken to anyone from the administrators for two weeks now.
"I'll be away as soon as the season finishes which is a shame as this is a great squad to work with and their hard work today reflects that again."
