KILMARNOCK assistant boss Billy Brown insists ref Mike McCurry was wrong to give Motherwell a controversial penalty and cleared David Lilley of an alleged headbutt.
The Rugby Park No.2 was gutted after the 1-0 defeat, which means Killie have now only won once in 14 SPL games.
Brown admitted Lilley was rightly sent off in the second-half for a crude tackle on Ross McCormack but dismissed the headbutt claims as nonsense.
The defender appeared to put his head into David Clarkson's as he accused the striker of taking a dive in the box.
But Brown (right) said: "David put his head down to remonstrate with Clarkson because he thought he'd dived. But to say he headbutted him is nonsense.
"I didn't think it was a penalty.
But they missed it and it's a real kick in the teeth to lose a goal so late.
"In terms of spirit, fight and heart we were excellent. For that reason I thought we deserved a point."
