THE irony isn't lost on Brian Kerr, the man who left Motherwell for Hibs in the belief they offered him a better chance of playing European football.
Almost a year later the midfielder will be on the outside looking in at Well's Euro party on Thursday as his old pals conclude their incredible season on his home patch.
Kerr believes Hibs have only themselves to blame for slumping in the SPL run-in.
That form dip means the Easter Road clash will not be the winner-takes-all game for third spot it could have been.
But he insists Hibees haven't given up hope of joining Well in the UEFA Cup through the Intertoto Cup.
Kerr (right) said: "When I left Motherwell I believed it would give me a much better chance of playing in the UEFA Cup and didn't think it would turn out like this. But you make your decisions and stick to them.
"I have no regrets. I'm delighted for the Well lads because I have a lot of good friends there and keep in touch, especially with Stevie Hammell and David Clarkson.
"I didn't expect Motherwell to finish above us although I was well aware of the ability they had in the squad.
"This year the change in guys like Clarkson and Ross McCormack has been unbelievable after difficult spells.
"It's a bit of a downer that this final game won't be a decider. We threw it all away in the last couple of weeks.
"However, we are looking at the Intertoto as our way into the UEFA Cup this summer."
