Kris Boyd: If Rangers play me I'll top the SPL scoring charts

KRIS BOYD has vowed to be the SPL's top scorer this season if Walter Smith continues to pick him for Rangers.

The Ibrox hitman looks like he could finally be a first choice for the Ibrox gaffer after the departure of Daniel Cousin to Hull last month.

Boyd is back in Smith's starting line-up and hit an SPL double last week against Kilmarnock.

The 25-year-old is adamant he will finish as the league's top marksman again if he can keep his place.

And he admits he'd love to strike up a productive partnership with Scotland team-mate Kenny Miller at club level.

Boyd wasn't a regular under Smith last term but still rattled in 25 goals - including vital strikes in both the CIS and Scottish Cup finals.

The striker's remarkable record at Rangers is 74 goals in 112 appearances and despite being the subject of bids from Cardiff City this summer he's more determined than ever to add to that tally.

Kris said: "If I play I WILL be the top scorer.

"That has never bothered me as I know my team-mates will create chances for me and I will get on the end of them.

"It's up to me to stay in the team now and as long as the opportunities keep coming - which I'm sure they will - I'll take them.

"Last week against Kilmarnock was the first time me and Kenny have played alongside each other this season.

"We did really well as a partnership. We created a few chances for each other and there were times when we looked good together.

"If we can keep that up the manager will have a tough decision to make.

"If he has two strikers doing the business every week he won't want to leave us out.

"I think he's decided to go with two up front this season and obviously I want to make sure I'm one of them."
