Walter splashes out £6m on midfield duo Davis and Edu

WALTER SMITH last night revealed Rangers have splashed out s6million to snap up midfield duo Steve Davis and Maurice Edu.

Davis will cost more than s3m from Fulham and MLS star Edu arrives for s2.75m - taking the club's summer spending spree to s18m.

Gers boss Smith, whose side beat Hearts 2-0, said: "We've agreed a deal with the MLS for Edu and he will sign if granted a work permit.

"We've also agreed a fee with Fulham for Steve and there are one or two things to be tied up with his personal terms.

"I'm pleased to get both and with the signing of Pedro Mendes it gives us extra quality in the midfield."

Edu's arrival with Sandy Jardine before the game stopped a protest by 2000 fans outside the stadium as the silent protest turned to cheers.
