PROUD David Weir admits it's a huge honour to captain a club of Rangers' stature - but still wishes he didn't have the armband.
The veteran has been made stand-in skipper while Barry Ferguson sits out the first four months of the season after having surgery last week to repair damaged ankle tendons. And while the 38-year-old stopper admits he was proud when Walter Smith made him Gers' on-pitch leader in Fergie's absence he insists he'd swap it in a minute just to get their star midfielder back in action.
Weir said: "I'd obviously rather Barry was playing and I wasn't captain but it's great and while he's injured I'll trymy best to make the most of it and help the team.
"It's a great honour. To play for Rangers and be named captain of a club and institution like this makes me so proud.
"I want to make it last as long as I can and be successful."
