Papac: I can't wait for Stevie to return

RANGERS stopper Sasa Papac is desperate to see Stevie Smith end his injury hell even though it could cost him his first-team place.

The Bosnian established himself as first choice left-back last term in Smith's prolonged absence.

Jinxed Stevie is ruled out for the start of the new season with a fresh injury and Papac looks like having another vital role to play.

But the former Austria Vienna man can't wait for his team-mate to return and compete for a place. Papac said: "It will be good for everyone when Stevie comes back. We've needed him for a long time.

"I know he's injured again but I'm sure he'll do well for us this season. He fills the same position as me but we played too many games last year so everybody can have some action. It's not a problem.

"I'd have been happy if Stevie had been fit last year - it would have made it easier for me and given the team more options on the left."
