Pressure is on Walter

FORMER Rangers star Trevor Steven admits Walter Smith is under pressure to deliver the SPL title next season.

Steven insists the Light Blues gaffer can't afford to lose the championship to Celtic for a second season running as his job may be on the line.

He also fears the mental scars of last season, when Gers lost the league on the final day of the campaign and suffered defeat in the UEFA Cup Final, could take a while to heal.

Trevor said: "Every manager is under pressure at all times.

"Walter knows he's got to win the league next year.

"It sounds crazy to think a Rangers legend like him is under pressure but it's true.

"Celtic came out on top and they're the better team just now.

"If Rangers had pulled it off at the end of the season it would have given them a massive lift.

"Football is psychological and a huge part of what happened will be in their minds."
