Gers are mad for Madjid

RANGERS have been linked with a £2million summer move for Charlton central defender Madjid Bougherra.

The Algerian international has been outstanding at The Valley since signing from Guegnon 18 months ago.

Addicks boss Alan Pardew has rejected a £1.6m bid from Real Betis for the 25-year-old but Gers could swoop.

Reports in England suggest Walter Smith wants to bring Bougherra to Ibrox as a possible partner for Carlos Cuellar at the hearts of Gers' defence.

Portsmouth, Wigan, Newcastle and Middlesbrough are also keen on the centre-back who has had spells with Crewe and Sheffield Wednesday.

Charlton chairman Martin Symons told MailSport: "So far we have not received any offer from Rangers for Madjid.

"The manager is on holiday at the moment and I don't expect anything to happen until he has returned."
