Weir's Plea For Old Firm Peace

DAVIE WEIR last night spoke of his shame at getting sent off against Celtic and called for an Old Firm TRUCE before today's crunch league clash at Parkhead.

The veteran Rangers and Scotland defender urged both sides to cool it in the wake of the dreadful scenes that marred the last derby.

Weir and Hoops stopper Gary Caldwell were reported for violent conduct following a furious bust-up at the end of Celtic's 2-1 victory 11 days ago.

Now the 37-year-old is dreading more mayhem today as the title race goes to the wire.

Weir said: "You have a responsibility to behave and act in the correct manner.

"What you do on the pitch affects what happens off it. That's the disappointing thing for me - we haven't helped the situation."

Meanwhile, Ibrox boss Walter Smith's outburst at the SPL and Celtic's Peter Lawwell will be discussed by the SFA tomorrow. But MailSport understands Smith will not be punished for accusing the SPL of buckling to Celtic's demands in fixture scheduling.

An SFA spokesperson said: "The comments are unlikely to be in breach of any rules."
