Our Worst Match This Term

DISGUSTED Diego last night branded Werder Bremen's midweek performance against Rangers their worst game of the season.

The Brazilian ace reckons it will now take one of their best displays to salvage the club's UEFA Cup dream.

And the playmaker hopes Bremen's fans follow the example of the Ibrox faithful by helping the team overturn a 2-0 deficit in Thursday's second leg.

Diego (left) said: "In Glasgow we played our worst match this season.

"I was annoyed with my own display because at no point did I feel comfortable. "Rangers' system made it almost impossible to dominate possession. They deserved to win because they were superior on the night but we look forward to the return.

"We need to keep things intense and test Rangers with as many shots as possible. We have 90 minutes to bring this tie to life and it will take our best match of the campaign.

"We will try to dominate at home and our supporters will be crucial."

But striker Hugo Almeida fears Gers will catch them on the break if Werder are too gung-ho in Germany.

He said: "We must attack without madness because Rangers are dangerous on the counter.

We have to play with our brains rather than our hearts and be patient.

"I am optimistic and think we can turn this around. But we need our supporters to make the stadium a melting pot.

"Man for man Rangers are not better than us but their system sets out to control our key players and puts defence above attack.

"We must forget our Ibrox nightmare and have faith in ourselves."

Defender Naldo added: "In the previous round we won 3-0 at home against Braga but Rangers are a much better team. This game now becomes our UEFA Cup Final."
