Russ: I'll Weight For Chance

FIRED-UP Russell Latapy is vowing to fight the flab and prove he still has the hunger for a perfect end to his colourful career.

The Trinidadian has been ordered to lose weight by gaffer John Hughes after he lost his place in high-flying Falkirk's first team.

Bairns' young stars have produced their best form of the season in Russell's absence but the midfield magician is determined to prove he can still lead by example at 39.

Latapy is driven by an ambition to savour cup glory before he hangs up his boots and is desperate to face Aberdeen on Saturday.

He believes he will see more action once he's in better in shape and said: "I'm just glad I can still play at this level at my tender age although it's difficult in winter when it's freezing.

"The gaffer says I need to lose weight so if I can do that in the coming months when it gets warmer maybe I can get back in the starting line-up. I would love to win the Scottish Cup and it would top off my career."

Latapy knows this season could be his last chance to grace a Hampden final.

However, even if Bairns stumble he remains confident his young team-mates will soon be getting their hands on silverware.

Latapy said: "At my age I just enjoy it one day at a time. With the potential at this club, the foundations and standards, Falkirk can win a trophy in the near future."
