SPL can't afford a repeat of last season's shambles, warns Gordon Strachan

GORDON STRACHAN reckons Scottish football's reputation was tarnished last season after Gretna's closure and the chaos behind the Fir Park pitch.

In March Motherwell's postponed fixture with Celtic was the sixth weather-related call-off of the campaign.

Many pointed to the fact Gretna were allowed into Scotland's top-flight to ground share with Mark McGhee's men.

The Borderers' low crowds and eventual bankruptcy also caused sceptics to brand the SPL a laughing stock.

And Strachan hopes there will be no repeat of the shambles. He said: "I want us to show the best of Scottish football.

"At its best it can be great. At its worst it can be horrendous as we seen last year with 500 people at games sometimes."
