Taylor officially backs Hoops Euro bid

FORMER SFA chief David Taylor was delighted to be the man who OFFICIALLY told Celtic they would go straight into the Champions League groups.

The Hoops will bypass the qualifiers and land a £10million jackpot thanks to Manchester United's victory in last season's European Cup Final.

And UEFA general secretary Taylor said: "I actually signed the official UEFA letter last week to confirm this to Celtic. But I also phoned one of their officials in advance to let them know they can start spending the Champions League money.

"The SPL champions will get direct entry as from next season.

"But because the final was between two English teams this year it also meant Celtic could go straight into the group stages this time."
