Paul Hartley: Beware Rangers backlash

PAUL HARTLEY insists the hurt of losing out on the title will make Rangers more determined than ever to snatch the SPL crown next season.

Celtic lifted the league trophy in dramatic fashion to make it three-in-a-row and seal a stunning turnaround in a thrilling title race.

The Hoops looked out of it with seven games to go but tallied 21 points in the run-in to leave the Ibrox men gutted.

But Hartley believes the final day drama will spur Gers on next season.

He said: "I'm still on a high from the title success. We had left ourselves with a lot of work to do and that made it all the sweeter.

"The Rangers players will have been upset at losing out and they'll be keen to get the league season started as soon as possible.

"They'll want to come back at us and there will be a hunger from them to win the league.

They won't want us make it four-in-a-row.

"But we will not stand still. We've tasted success and want to keep it going.

"The gaffer will try to strengthen the squad and also keep the good players at the club.

It means no player will be able to take their place for granted and we will all need to work hard to keep improving our game.

"All things considered, we'll have another cracking title race next season. I'm sure it will be tight and make for great viewing for the fans. As long as we come out on top."

Hartley was pleased to play such a big part in the title success.

Playing the holding midfield role with Barry Robson beside him, he looked comfortable and was arguably Celtic's most influential player in their final push.

Up until that period, there were some who questioned whether he'd be able to contribute week-in, week-out after his £1.2million move from Hearts in January, 2007.

He has answered his critics and now wants to build on the good work of the past two months.

He said: "I really enjoyed my football for Celtic in the run-in.

"I felt fit and felt as though I was making an impact in the games. It was a great feeling.

"To win three-in-a-row is incredible and it was nice to do it for Tommy Burns and the boss, who takes a lot of stick."
