Lennon: We need goals from McDonald to inspire us

NEIL LENNON reckons Scott McDonald is the man to keep Celtic's faint championship hopes alive.

The former Hoops skipper worked with the Australian striker for the first time on Friday morning in training and he was impressed.

McDonald is the club's top scorer with 26 goals after his £700,000 move from Motherwell and Lennon is sure he will score add to the tally. And the Hoops need his goals more than ever after yesterday's shock defeat to Well left them potentially 12 points behind league leaders Rangers.

The Parkhead coach said: "I like the look of McDonald. He is a fantastic goalscorer.

"I loved his attitude and manner. He has a bit of cockiness about him and the aggression you need.

"He looked the part and has been great for Celtic this season with the goals he has scored. I'm sure he has a few left in him between now and the end of the campaign."

Lennon was delighted to get the chance to join the Parkhead backroom staff.

Gordon Strachan first suggested the idea 10 days ago and it moved on last midweek.

Lennon said: "I'm flattered Gordon asked me to work with him again.

"Iwill help outwith the first team until the end of the season and then we'll see. My role for next season has not been defined yet.

"I'm looking forward to working with the players and seeing what I can bring to the place. It's a fresh challenge.

"The manager will be the main voice but I'm sure he won't mind me throwing in a few words to help."
