Scott Is English Target

GORDON STRACHAN reckons it's only a matter of time before a big-money offer comes in for red-hot Celtic striker Scott McDonald.

The Aussie struggled under Strach as a kid at Southampton but is now at the top of his game and has bagged 21 goals already this season.

Rangers star Alan Hutton joined Spurs last month for £9million and Strachan admits it won't be long before Premiership clubs start sniffing around his top performers like McDonald.

He said: "You could say it's a matter of time before a silly offer comes in. Scott's a fantastic bargain and some £7m players are not in the same class as our guys. What figure could you put on Aiden McGeady and Scott Brown?

"If Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink was up for sale clubs in the Premiership would say: 'Right, we'll take him now'. You also see defenders going for £5m so what value is Stephen McManus?"
