Plenty for Charlie to Mul over

Premier League

OLD Bhoy Charlie Mulgrew bagged a stunning double on his return to Parkhead yesterday - but still ended up gutted after Celtic battled back to send Aberdeen spinning to defeat.

The Dons sub pounced twice in the second half to cancel out Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink's opener and put his side on course for a famous win.

But the former Hoops kid left with nothing as late goals from Scott McDonald and Vennegoor of Hesselink sealed a 3-2 defeat.

Mulgrew said: "That's the first time I've ever scored at Parkhead. So it's a pity my goals didn't help us pick up a point at least. But we're behind the boss and determined to start winning."

Darren Mackie blew a chance to level the game in the dying seconds when he raced through on Artur Boruc only to shoot wide. And Mulgrew claimed the miss left the striker heartbroken.

He said: "Darren looked gutted. All the lads were. Had the surface not been so wet the ball might just have gone in."

Dons boss Jimmy Calderwood (right) was pleased with Mulgrew's goals but criticised him for losing possession in the build up to Celtic's last-gasp winner.

He said: "Charlie still has a lot to learn.

He was trying to play football and lost the ball. We didn't deserve to lose and merited our lead in the second half.

"Football is wonderful when you're winning but it can also be so cruel.

"Celtic threw on quality players and attacked in numbers. Unfortunately we couldn't hold out."
