Diamond: We'll polish up our act

ZANDER DIAMOND has vowed to repay Aberdeen boss Jimmy Calderwood's faith in his beleaguered back four.

The stopper was expecting a glut of fresh faces over the summer to flesh out a defence that bled goals all season.

Instead only Scotland Under-21 full-back Charlie Mulgrew has arrived and Caldo clearly believes his current crop have it in them to shut up shop.

Diamond, winning his fight to be back from an ankle injury for the season opener against Inverness, said: "In the early part of last season we went to Tynecastle and got thumped 4-1. And we did the same there again in the CIS Cup semi-final against Dundee United.

"Our goal difference was minus eight for the season in the league - the only team in the top six with negative figures. It was so unlike us.

"So we've had to work on it this summer but it's good the manager has faith in the guys that we have the ability to turn things around.

"I was expecting to see new faces and in a way you relish the challenge but the gaffer is working with what he has and it's up to us now."
