Byrne banks on clinic cure

ABERDEEN reject Richie Byrne is to check into a specialist injury clinic in Ireland in a bid to kick-start his career.

The full-back has been freed by Dons boss Jimmy Calderwood and the 26-year-old is now determined to get fully fit as he battles to find a new club.

The Irishman has been plagued by injuries since signing for Aberdeen from Dunfermline in 2005.

He said: "It's hard to accept my stay at Aberdeen is over because it seems so much of my time there has been lost through injuries. It cost me around two years of my career all in and my sole aim is just to get fully fit now.

"I'm going back to Ireland for a fortnight and will visit an injury clinic there. After that I'm not sure whether to trymyluck in England but hopefully I'll get something sorted soon."
