MONTROSE held out for a point with 10 men after blowing the chance to kill Annan off from the spot.
John Baird missed a costly penalty in 42 minutes when the home set looked set to double their lead following Scott Anson's opener.
Annan made them pay when sub Graham Bell bagged the leveller in 73 minutes. And Montrose then had to cling on when Hugh Davidson was sent off four minutes later.
Gaffer Jim Weir said: "I'm disappointed to lose another soft goal. My players say the scorer was offside but we must stop the cross."
Montrose took a deserved lead in 28 minutes when Scott Anson fired home from the edge of the box.
But Annan battled back for a point when Bell headed home a cross from fellow sub Ryan Adamson.
Boss Harry Cairney said: "I'm happy with the way we fought back."
