BERWICK gaffer Alan McGonigal blasted his defence after Sons came from behind with a second-half double to bag their first win.
Angry McGonigal blamed his stoppers for the defeat and said: "We'll have to tighten up at the back because it was defensive mistakes that cost both goals."
Dumbarton should have scored in the first minute when Iain Chisholm swept through only to shoot wide.
Berwick replied with Stuart Callaghan forcing David McEwan into a decent save.
Darren Gribben grabbed Berwick's first in 40 minutes, walking the ball into the net after McEwan and keeper Ben Gordon got in a mix-up.
After pressure at the start of the second half Sons grabbed a deserved equaliser in 55 minutes when Gordon Lennon fired home a rasping 20-yard drive.
A mistake by Peter McMahon gifted Fergus Tiernan another in 61 minutes.
The bar denied Dillon a late equaliser.
Sons gaffer Jim Chapman said: "We lost a silly goal but showed character and came out fighting and got the win that we deserved."
