Aug 3 2008 Ally Graham Reports
ANDREW BRAND bagged a double in his first competitive game for Stenhousemuir to seal an opening day win.
The Warriors passed up an early chance when Scott Dalziel volleyed wide from eight yards.
Stenny stormed ahead in 33 minutes when Brand cracked a strike past Ally Ridgers from 20 yards. Elgin searched for an equaliser but Jason Crooks' volley was well held by Stenny's Kieron Renton in 65 minutes.
The away side were reduced to 10 men in 68 minutes when full-back Kenny Gilbert needlessly handled inside the box. But Brand fired the penalty over.
John Coughlin's side doubled their tally in 76 minutes as Stephen Hampshire drilled low past Ridgers from 12 yards.
Stenny ended Elgin's hopes when sub Kevin Motion's corner was met by Brand who headed it home.
