Mickey Lawson: I'd put money on Spartans' success

MICKEY LAWSON has revealed he'll bet old pal Eamonn Bannon bottom of the Third Division next season - if they get into the SFL.

The Ainslie Park co-boss will be ecstatic if his club get the go-ahead to replace Gretna at a Hampden summit on Thursday.

They're competing with Cove Rangers, Annan Athletic, Preston Athletic and Edinburgh City for a place in the top flight.

But ex-Dundee United and Scotland star Bannon insists whoever gets in will be the whipping boys next term. Lawson disagrees and is confident Spartans could hold their own if given the chance.

He said: "I was debating this with Eamonn in the pub and he reckons whoever goes up will finish bottom but I don't think so.

"I'll certainly bet him £20 we don't finish last if we get in. We've already shown in the Scottish Cup we can compete and we'd be able to attract better players in the SFL."
