Montrose 3-2 Elgin

ELGIN BOSS Robbie Williamson was left devastated as Jay Stein grabbed a last-gasp winner to crush his troops' play-off hopes.

City levelled twice through Steven MacKay and Paul Kaczan after John Baird had put the home side in front.

But Williamson's joy turned to despair as Stein snatched the victory deep into stoppage time.

The shell-shocked gaffer said: "It's a double blow having lost the game in the dying seconds and then come into the dressing room to find out Arbroath had also lost."

Montrose manager Jim Weir said: "The boys showed great character to grind out the victory."

Baird fired Montrose ahead in 11 minutes only for the away team to equalise three minutes before the break when MacKay drilled home a 25-yard free-kick.

Hitman Baird restored the home side's lead in the 67th minute through a hotly disputed spot-kick.

City looked to have nabbed a vital point when Kaczan netted late on before Stein struck the killer blow.
