Dumbarton 0-0 Montrose

MONTROSE edged into the playoffs - but know they have to improve to have any chance of stepping up a division.

Sons started well and Liam Cusack was unlucky to be ruled offside when he raced on to Tommy Coyne's pass.

At the other end Steven Doris blasted over then home keeper David Crawford was booked for handling outside his area.

Montrose keeper Mark Peat denied Grant Evans then blocked Andy Geggan's shot.

Montrose almost scored just on half-time but Crawford tipped John Baird's header over. Ryan Russell replaced Mark Canning and set up Craig Potter for a drive that Peat (below) pushed over.

Russell shot wide himself and Peat denied Potter and sub Fergus Tiernan. Late on, Russell and Coyne both missed chances.

Montrose gaffer JimWeir said: "It was well balanced with both sides struggling to create chances so a draw was about right."

Sons' Jim Chapman said: "We deserved to win - but again we just can't put the ball in the net."
