DAVIE NICHOLLS' strike was enough to seal the win for Shire in a dull clash.
The ex-Gretna man fired home just before the break in a game void of thrills.
After a poor start, Paul Tosh almost opened the scoring for Arbroath when he smashed a Kevin McMullen pass off the foot of the far post.
Joe Savage tried his luck for the visitors but Craig Tully's tackle took the sting out of the striker's shot and keeper Darren Hill made an easy save. But Shire grabbed the winner in 35 minutes.
A Kevin McBride free kick was cleared to the edge of the box and Nicholls (below) drilled in an unstoppable shot to clinch the win.
The visitors had a second strike from Savage ruled out for a foul as both sides played out a dire second half with few chances.
