ARBROATH kept their play-off dream alive with second-half goals by Barry Sellars and Scott McBride.
Rovers' cause wasn't helped in 40 minutes when John Gemmell was sent packing for head-butting Paul Watson.
In 30 minutes Arbroath keeper Darren Hill tipped away Pat Walker's vicious in-swinging corner.
But ten minutes later Gemmell was given a straight red card. The opener arrived in 73 minutes.
From just outside the box Sellars curled a free-kick past debutant Tony Mitchell. The second came three minutes from time when Sellars played in sub McBride and he placed a shot past Mitchell.
Arbroath gaffer John McGlashan said: "I felt the first goal was crucial, and luckily we got it. We can only throw our play-off place away."
Rovers' John McCormack said: "Indiscipline let us down. John was causing them problems but down to 10 men we were up against it."
