STRANRAER'S faint title hopes disappeared as Forfar recorded their fourth win out of five.
Forfar scored in 53 minutes from a John Fraser 30-yard free kick - with some help from unlucky Stranraer keeper Scott Black.
Fraser's shot crashed back off the woodwork but hit Black on the head and rolled over the line.
Stranraer's Ian Dobbins was sent off in 61 minutes.
Forfar gaffer Jim Moffat said: "It was a fantastic win against a team fighting for the play-offs."
Stranraer's Derek Ferguson said: "The difference between the sides was the luck for their goal."
