Stranraer 0-0 Elgin

ELGIN'S long trip south was rewarded with a point.

And with a little bit of luck, they could have gone home with all three.

The visitors should have made more of a 21st-minute chance. Mark Smith sent Craig Campbell clear but with just keeper Scott Black to beat, he fired a shot at the keeper from 12 yards out.

Stranraer's best chance of the first half came when they were awarded a free-kick just outside the box. But Darren Gribben blasted the ball over the bar.

Martin Charlesworth - who struck twice for Elgin last week - thought he had added to his tally in the 49th minute.

His 25-yard drive beat keeper Black then hit the bar and rebound back into play.

At the other end, AndyGibson beat his marker three times before flighting the ball into the middle but Danny Mitchell's header went wide of the post.

On the hour mark, Elgin keeper Ali Ridgers made a mess of a punch out to present a chance for Gribben, but Ally Ridgers was on hand to block.

In the 66th minute, Stranraer rode their luck again when Steven Bonar needed two headers to clear Paul Kaczan's header off the line, with Black beaten.
