ARBROATH secured their first home win in the league since September with a dominant display.
Paul Watson opened the scoring in 12 minutes when he rose highest to bullet home a header from Andy Reilly's corner.
The home side doubled their lead in 31 minutes when Elgin keeper Ally Ridgers' poor clearance fell to Barry Sellars and he fired into the empty net from 35 yards.
Reilly had a goal ruled out for offside in 55 minutes as the Gayfield Park side remained in control.
Delighted Arbroath manager John McGlashan said: "The main thing was getting a win.
"We could have scored more but I'm happy with the result."
Gutted Elgin boss Robbie Williamson said: "We conceded easy goals and when you do that you have no chance."
