BEAMING Cowden boss Brian Welsh hailed his young guns after they shrugged off an injury crisis to notch their first home win in four months.

Beath had 11 players out injured and six youth team members were promoted to the full squad.

The result gives the Fifers a major lift ahead of their relegation play-off matches against Arbroath.

Welsh said: "Our home form has been horrendous but this is a boost.

"We're facing a very important phase and the players will have taken great confidence from this."

On-loan Hearts striker Denis McLaughlin grabbed the winner three minutes after half-time, firing low past Alex Cowie from 15 yards.

Cowdenbeath could have had a bigger winning margin but sub Mark Ramsay hit the bar late on.

Queens manager Gardner Speirs said: "Nobody could argue Cowdenbeath deserved to win. Our approach work was very poor."
