HITKID David Ross helped himself to a double as the Blue Toon ran riot to keep their slim play-off hopes alive.
The teenage striker fired Peterhead one up in 15 minutes, racing on to keeper Paul Leask's long kick-out to smash high into the net.
It was 2-0 in 24 minutes when Ayr could only clear a corner as far as Stuart Anderson on the edge of the penalty area and the midfielder rifled a low shot into the corner of the net.
Ross grabbed No.3 two minutes after the restart, curling a stunning 20-yard effort past McGeown via the post.
Ross was terrorising the visitors now and the Aberdeen loan star teed up Martin Bavidge to side-foot home a fourth in 63 minutes.
Substitute David Lowing hit a consolation for Ayr in 72 minutes, getting on the end of Alex William's hooked cross to net from close in.
Peterhead boss Neale Cooper said: "We've not been good enough recently but the boys responded well and we dominated the game."
Ayr gaffer Brian Reid said: "The goals we lost were schoolboy errors and the players looked like they'd never seen one another before."
