Ayr 0-1 Riath Rovers

GUTTED Ayr boss Brian Reid admitted they need a miracle to reach the play-offs after sub Derek Carcary hit a late winner.

Defeat leaves Ayr seven points adrift of fourth, but Reid said: "We want to finish high up and kick on for next season.

"It was a cruel way to lose because we deserved a point."

Ayr had stopper Murray Henderson sent off a minute before the break for a last-man foul on Graham Weir.

Raith struggled to cash in - a lob from Weir headed off the line from Eddie Forrest being their best chance.

Ayr threw on veteran Andy McLaren but Carcary drilled home from 18 yards in stoppage time to win it.

Raith boss John McGlynn said: "This gives us a huge lift towards the play-offs but we want to push Airdrie all the way for second."
