TWO goals in the last 10 minutes kept alive Brechin's promotion play-off hopes but left Cowdenbeath with one eye on the drop.
A goalless draw was on the cards before Darren Smith and Adam Nelson snatched a priceless win for City.
Cowden boss Brian Welsh moaned: "We had no luck whatsoever. The lads gave their all. We hit the underside of the bar only to see Brechin score twice."
Welsh's men had the best of the first half and came close in 76 minutes when Dougie Hill's header hit the bar.
Six minutes later Smith turned in Iain Diack's cross and soon after Nelson fired Brechin's second.
Brechin boss Michael O'Neill said: "We worked hard and got the result we wanted against a Cowdenbeath side battling for their lives."
