Alloa 1-2 Ayr

BEAMING Brian Reid saluted his patchwork Ayr heroes after they made it five away wins on the bounce.

Deadly headers from Gareth Wardlaw and Eddie Forrest stung 10-man Wasps who pulled one back late on through John Grant.

Ayr gaffer Reid said: "We're certainly the form team on the road and I'm delighted with this victory as we are right down to the bare bones of our squad.

"We lost a cheap goal but defended well overall.

"We could have scored more and are still in with a shout of the play-offs."

Ayr opened the scoring inside two minutes when Wardlaw rose unmarked to nod in Paul Weaver's cross.

Alloa poured forward after the break but lacked a cutting edge and fell two behind with 12 minutes to go when Forrest bulleted home Ryan Stevenson's corner.

John Grant pulled one back two minutes from time for Alloa who then had Scott Agnew sent off for a second yellow.

Wasps boss Allan Maitland said: "I'm so disappointed as that was easily the best we've played in weeks.

"My only criticism is how we defended at the two set pieces which cost us the goals.

"Agnew was unlucky to get a red card - he was booked for his only two real tackles."
