Cowdenbeath 1-2 Berwick

BERWICK boss Michael Renwick saluted his relegation-threatened side for battling back to grab a shock victory.

The bottom-of-the-table Borderers recorded their first away win of the season.

And Renwick said: "We showed a lot of character after losing an early goal. Rather than disintegrating we showed real togetherness.

"We know it's going to be difficult to try and rescue our position but we'll keep battling away."

Scott Gemmill struck twice as the Shielfield side sent Cowden tumbling towards a relegation play-off place.

The Fifers took the lead after just eight minutes when sorry Berwick keeper Peter Logan fumbled Pat Scullion's free-kick and Dene Droudge bundled the ball into the net.

Berwick drew level on the half hour when Gemmill pounced to fire a left-foot shot over keeper David Hay. And he fired a superb winner in the 63rd minute.

Cowden assistant boss Danny Lennon said: "The players know they let the club down. We need better performances from our better players - they need to stand up and be counted.

"We've got to get this result out of our system as quickly as possible."
