Ayr's Bid Off The Ground

AYR UNITED are celebrating after councillors gave the thumbs-up to their plans for a new £15million stadium.

The Second Division club hope next season will be their last at Somerset Park which will be demolished for housing.

Their new stadium will be built on the outskirts of the town and include office space to rent out to businesses.

The decision to grant planning permission ends years of frustration for the club.

Managing director Lachlan Cameron said: "We have taken a major step forward to realising modern, purpose-built facilities at our new home at Heathfield."
