RAITH boss John McGlynn praised new boy David Goodwillie after a dream debut from the on-loan Dundee Utd star.
McGlynn claimed the striker can help them mount a serious bid for promotion after he both made and scored a goal in his first appearance for the Stark's Park side.
He said: "Goodwillie set the tone for the whole game. He's a smashing striker and to make one and score one is great for us.
"There's no doubt he'll give all defences problems in the time he's here. It's now all about consistency and we must put a run together."
Deflated Cowdenbeath boss Brian Welsh said: "We never really started and defended badly for their two goals."
Raith took the lead in 15 minutes when Goodwillie played in Steven Hislop who rifled home from close range.
Goodwillie doubled the advantage on the half-hour when he slotted in Iain Davidson's pin-point cross.
Cowden's Martyn McBride was unlucky not to pull one back five minutes later when his shot cannoned off the post.
Just before half-time Chris Fahey came to Raith's rescue when he brilliantly tipped over Pat Clarke's net-bound drive.
In the second half Goodwillie continued to cause Cowden all sorts of problems and when Craig Wilson's cross found the striker he bulleted his header off the bar.
Any hope Cowden had of taking something from this game went when Clarke passed up a great chance in 64 minutes.
He sprinted through the middle and rounded Fahey but over-ran the ball allowing Raith's defence to backtrack and clear away the danger.
